Online PR News – 23-July-2014 – Sarasota, Florida – Shirley Brown, current member of the Sarasota County School Board - District 4, announces a new campaign website to support her re-election efforts at Constituents can learn her positions on many of the important issues affecting the Sarasota County School District as well as find biographical information about Brown.

"We have an A-rated school district with outstanding arts and music programs and leading-edge technology in all of our schools, thanks to careful budgeting and exciting community partnerships," said Brown. "I want to continue to build on this."

As a school board member since 2006, Brown has worked to lower the district’s dropout rates and protect Sarasota’s classrooms from painful budget cuts. She was also instrumental in securing the appointment of Superintendent Lori White.

"Lori White's appointment as Superintendent in 2007 helped to restore staff morale and public confidence in our school district," Brown said. "She will retire in 2017 and we need to avoid the problems with multiple appointments that plagued the school district from 1998-2006. Continuity in leadership is crucial to continuing Sarasota’s ‘A’ rated tradition of excellence."

Millions of dollars in operations and construction costs have been saved during Brown’s eight-year tenure on the school board. She and fellow board members have made sound fiscal management a top priority, along with educational excellence.

"My children attended, and now my grandchildren attend Sarasota County public schools. I want to know they are getting an 'A' rated education," Brown said. "As a business and property owner, I promise to invest our tax dollars wisely and ensure that we use our funds to prepare students for the work force or further educational opportunities that will await them when they graduate."

Brown previously served as a Sarasota County legislator from 1992 to 2000, and she used her time as a state representative to advocate for public schools, children and families.

"I ran for the school board in 2006 to bring stability and leadership to the school district. The last thing we need now is to elect people to the school board who bring discord to the district and divert us from the good work we are doing for our students and our community," Brown adds. "I have the experience to get the job done and am proud to have earned the trust of this community."

Brown is married to her husband Jack, and is the mother of two children – including one who grew up to be a teacher herself – and has three grandchildren. She attends Church of the Palms.
