Online PR News – 21-July-2014 – Kuala Lumpur – RBsentinel.com has spawned a first point in the “Jalur Komuniti Sentinel” programme, namely the assignment of an Aedes BG Sentinel trap, as a social service assistance to eradicate the Dengue outbreak by trapping the Aedes mosquitoes.
The assignment ceremony was held at PPR Desa Tun Razak, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur and was officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, the Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government. Officials and representatives from Ministries, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Government departments and agencies, and from the industry were also present.
The attainable goal of this initiative is to provide a large coverage for areas that is vulnerable to Aedes and Dengue infestation. A geographic information system (GIS) will also be provided by the company to show the distribution of the coverage areas. Participation from any corporate member to contribute towards the initiative through their ”Corporate Social Responsibility” (CSR) programme is most welcomed by the company, the trap will be labelled with the participating company's name and will be designated on the GIS coordinate point. Special program for Parents Teacher Association (PIBG) for schools is also available and the details can be obtained from the same home page.
“With the implementation of this first point, we hope this project will get the support from the corporate members and the relevant agencies to assist in providing the solution to this aggravated problem, as carried out in Manaus ” said Mejar (B) Zainal Abdullah, the Managing Director of Rangkaian Bekalan Sdn Bhd, referring to a similar initiative carried out using the same traps (BG Sentinel) in Manaus, Brazil with sponsorship from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and World Bank. The project was carried out for eighteen (18) months from in 2009 to 2010, during this study, scientists have observed the reduction of Aedes mosquitoes up to 95% on some cycle. These traps which has been developed by a team of scientists led by Dr Martin Geier after 15 years of research in the field of mosquito behaviour, ( read research documents at http://www.bg-sentinel.com ) , were previously used by research engineers , now available to the public .
“Trapping adult Aedes mosquitoes is a practical option in our case considering the absence of vaccine and the increasing difficulty to locate the hatchery of Aedes larvae , its also a non-intrusive and environmentally friendly approach ” add Mejar (B) Zainal Abdullah.
