Pedaling for a Cause: Texas Mamma Jamma Ride Supports Breast Cancer Screenings

The Texas Mamma Jamma Ride returns to Taylor, Texas to support the life-saving mission of the Big Pink Bus

Online PR News – 21-August-2022 – AUSTIN, Texas – Presented by Lone Star Circle of Care (LSCC), the 2022 Texas Mamma Jamma Ride is a first-class cycling experience taking place on Saturday, September 17, in Taylor, Texas. The ride supports the lifesaving mission of the Big Pink Bus, the mobile mammogram service that travels throughout Central Texas. The Big Pink Bus brings accessible and affordable breast cancer screenings to underserved and uninsured women.
70% of patients had no coverage for their screening mammogram
56% of patients earn at or below 100% of the federal poverty level
13% of patients required follow-up diagnostic services after their mammogram and two were diagnosed with cancer

Operated by LSCC since 2021, the Big Pink Bus is outfitted with the latest 3D screening technology, and in its first year of operation, has accomplished many milestones including:
Approximately 10,000 miles traveled
Nearly 2,000 mammograms performed
149 screening events in five counties
22 unique locations across Central Texas, performing life-saving services to patients of all demographics.

This year's ride will start and finish on Taylor's historic Main Street with ride routes of 15, 25, 50 and 70 miles (maps here), providing distances for riders of every skill level. Riders will enjoy a first-class cycling experience through the beautiful Central Texas countryside, in addition to contributing to an event designed to raise funds for the life-saving mission of the Big Pink Bus.

“The Big Pink Bus had an incredibly successful first year thanks to funds raised from the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride,” said Jon Calvin, CEO of Lone Star Circle of Care. “Early detection of breast cancer saves lives and the Big Pink Bus brings Central Texan women the peace and resources they need.”
