Missions Committee of Midway United Methodist Church announced today a donation of $10,200 to Family Promise of Forsyth County.

Online PR News – 11-December-2021 – Alpharetta, GA – Missions Committee of Midway United Methodist Church announced today a donation of $10,200 to Family Promise of Forsyth County, as part of the Midway UMC Missions program, and their philanthropy commitment this year.

The financial support is dedicated to continuing the work Family Promise is doing in the Forsyth County community to change the lives of families experiencing homelessness.

Funds will be used for increasing services in the organization's new Community-Based Services (CBS) program. This new program serves families who may not need or may not qualify for Family Promise’s traditional program which includes shelter and meals.

A small ceremony took place at Midway United Methodist Church sanctuary, on Wed., Dec 8, at 7:00 p.m., during a check presentation to celebrate this donation.

“We are so appreciative of the Midway UMC community,” said Tina Ferrario Huck, Executive Director of Family Promise of Forsyth County. “Not only are they providing these much-needed funds, but they have also been an integral part of the FP family since we opened our doors five years ago serving as a Host Congregation providing families with a safe place to stay, meals and most important, loving support on their journey from homelessness to sustainable independence.”

Amanda Lane, the Associate Pastor at Midway added that it is always so good to see many people participating in assisting families in need. “We thank God for the ways that He has been at work in our lives bringing things to fruition, but we also realize that we live in a broken world, a world where there’s fear, and there are those who are alone and who need support. I would like to invite everyone to come to Midway and to join us in our efforts to make this world a better place.”

Midway United Methodist Church is also a host church for Family Promise of Forsyth County. The parishioners provide food, clothing, voluntary work hours, hospitality, and security for families under their roof. The members and visitors of the church also donated to numerous local nonprofits and several charities other countries, including Haiti and Venezuela. Midway Mission Possible 9: A Dash of Hope, 5K Run/Walk Peachtree qualifier and Kids Fun Run dedicated all its proceeds this year to Family Promise.

“The Mission Possible Midway 5K is in its nineth year and is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The proceeds from the race are always donated to a local charity. The race is in late September or early October” said Jeff Behrhorst, Missions Chair at Midway UMC. “The race begins at MUMC and weaves its way through the area around the church. It’s always a fun event with great energy.”

“This year, especially, this donation means so much to us. The number of children in our Forsyth County Schools who are identified as homeless is growing with that number already over 600, this school year. Our goal is to provide parents with the supports needed to create long-tern stability for their families. This gift will allow us to continue to expand how we do that,” says Huck.

About Midway United Methodist Church
Midway United Methodist Church has been a part of the community since the beginning. In the 1830s – about the time Forsyth County was incorporated – the first congregation came together and built a small wood-frame church where the current chapel stands today. A tornado destroyed that original building in 1920. Undaunted, the congregation came together to rebuild it. Slowly, carefully, with infinite faith, they created one of the most beautiful chapels in the state from the remnants of the pine trees downed by the storm, and it remains a testament to the strength and vision of the Midway UMC family. Fingerprints from those dedicated saints remain visible today in parts of the chapel, as are several original pews dating back to the 1800s.
The church grew with the community over the decades, adding a large educational building which now houses Midway Preschool (200 students), sanctuary with seating for 300, fellowship hall, commercial-grade kitchen, full-size gymnasium, classrooms and a newly remodeled offices and welcome center.
Midway United Methodist Church is located at 5025 Atlanta Highway, Alpharetta, GA 30004.
