Anais Aurora Badia has been named Dermatology Subspecialty Coordinator for Lee Health’s new Internal Medicine Residency Program

Online PR News – 01-October-2021 – Fort Myers, FL – Florida Skin Center (FSC) announced that its founder and medical director, Anais Aurora Badia, M.D., D.O., has been named Dermatology Subspecialty Coordinator for Lee Health’s new Florida State University College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program at Lee Health, Cape Coral Hospital.

A collaboration between Lee Health and the Florida State University College of Medicine, the inaugural internal medicine residency program will graduate capable and efficient internists who are life-long learners committed to serving others with excellence and compassion and promoting a healthier future for the community. The program consists of enthusiastic and experienced internists who love to teach, supported by highly motivated subspecialty faculty.

“The demand for dermatologic services is increasing with an aging population and rising rates of skin cancer and other skin diseases,” said Badia. “These residents will gain intense, real-world experience to prepare them as the next generation of internal medicine providers in Southwest Florida.” The residency program will have the first group of new physicians start training in July of 2022.

In addition to educating residents in the clinical settings and teaching them by hands-on experience, Dr. Badia will conduct educational lectures on dermatologic medical conditions and treatments commonly seen by internal medicine doctors. She will also perform grand rounds, an instructional method for presenting case studies of actual medical conditions and treatments. In addition, Dr. Badia will be a mentor for residents expressing the desire to conduct dermatology-based research.

The Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGNE) approved Badia’s application and credentials for the position. The independent, not-for-profit, physician-led organization sets and monitors the professional educational standards essential in preparing physicians to deliver safe, high-quality medical care to all Americans.

Badia holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and earned her Doctor of Osteopathy at Nova Southeastern University of Health Sciences. Her post-graduate training includes a pediatrics residency at Miami Children’s Hospital, dermatology residencies at Nova Southeastern University – Suncoast Hospital and Albany Medical College, and a pediatric dermatology mini-fellowship at Albany Medical College. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Health Sciences School of Medicine, Antigua, West Indies. She is board-certified in pediatric dermatology (2014-present) and dermatology (2004-present) by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology.

She has led numerous studies evaluating the efficacy, tolerability, and long-term safety of trial medications in adults with skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, Verneuili’s disease, plaque psoriasis, rosacea, and acne.
