VersaLogic Corp. has added two “wide” temperature (-20° to +70°C) models to its Blackbird Embedded Processing family.
Online PR News – 18-November-2020 – Tualatin, OR – VersaLogic Corp., the embedded industry’s most trusted computer company, has added two “wide” temperature (-20° to +70°C) models to its Blackbird Embedded Processing family.
The two new models feature Intel®’s “Skylake” i7-6822EQ processor and are available with 16 GB or 32 GB of memory. Both are specified to operate over the wide temperature range of -20° to +70°C. They have all the features and performance of the industrial temperature range versions featuring i3, i5, and i7 processors. They are a lower cost alternative for customers not requiring the full -40° to +85°C range.
Engineered for mission-critical applications
The Blackbird was engineered and tested to meet the defense, avionic, and medical industries’ requirements for smaller, reliable, and more powerful embedded systems. Approximately four inches by five inches and one and a half inch thick (95 x 125 x 37mm), the Blackbird is a member of the VersaLogic family of small, ultra-rugged embedded x86 computers.
“The Blackbird’s Skylake processors deliver amazing compute and video performance, at power levels that are very manageable,” said Len Crane, President of VersaLogic. “The on-board power supply, which accepts 8 to 30 VDC, makes it an easy match for fixed or mobile 12 and 24-volt systems. The USB 3.0 ports, analog inputs and outputs, and other I/O, make the Blackbird ideal for higher-performance systems.”
The Blackbird’s Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) security chip can be used to lock out unauthorized hardware and software access. It provides a secure processing environment for applications that require enhanced hardware-level security functions. Additional security support is provided through built-in AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) processor instructions.
High Performance Video
Intel’s advanced HD 500 series graphics provides outstanding performance and is capable of supporting up to two 4K UHD monitors at once. It also supports other graphic technologies such as OpenCL 2.0, DirectX 12, Open GL 4.4, HEVC/H.265 encoding and decoding, and H.264 encoder.
Blackbird supports dual DisplayPort outputs as well as a single/dual-channel LVDS display output.
Powerful On-board I/O
On-board I/O includes Gigabit Ethernet ports with network boot capability, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 host ports, and serial ports.SATA III interfaces support high-capacity rotating or solid-state drives. Analog inputs and outputs, digital I/O lines, I2C, and SPI round out the onboard device I/O.
Three mini PCIe sockets can be leveraged for easy system expansion using plug-in Wi-Fi modems, GPS receivers, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, Firewire, and other mini cards.
Like other VersaLogic products, the Blackbird has designed from the ground up for long-term availability (10+ year typical production lifecycle).
Modifications to the off-the-shelf product are available for the Blackbird, even in low OEM quantities. Modifications include conformal coating, revision locks, custom labeling, customized testing and screening, etc.
Pricing and Availability
The new wide temperature range Blackbird additions (VL-EPU-4562-WCP) are now in stock at both VersaLogic Corp. and Digi-Key Corp. OEM pricing for the new wide temperature range versions start at $1,782. Contact Sales@VersaLogic.com for more information.
