Atlanta, GA — The Academy Virtual announces the grand opening of their new online school for students in grades 3 through 6. The Academy Virtual, located in Atlanta, GA, is a private online school focusing on literacy development. Using research-based and data-driven programs, the school offers intensive, small group intervention to students from around the world. Students may possess severe reading deficiencies, language processing challenges, poor writing or spelling skills, dyslexia, ADHD, or other struggles in a traditional school setting. We believe four is the magic number at The Academy. Students take four content classes a day, totaling four hours a day, four days a week, and never more than four students in a classroom.
Classes are taught by teachers highly trained in Structured Literacy (SL), as well as other content areas. The school believes Structured Literacy is the most effective way to help students with their reading skills, ultimately helping to improve scores in every subject area. The Academy Virtual uses the most highly respected SL programs as the core element of their approach, such as Wilson Language, Take Flight and Multisensory Teaching Approach (MTA), Orton-Gillingham, Barton Reading, and Lindamood-Bell.
Founder and Chief Kid Influencer, Jimmy Arispe
“I want to have a positive impact on the greatest number of children possible before I leave this world,” said Founder and Chief Kid Influencer, Jimmy Arispe. “The current COVID climate has provided us with a wonderful opportunity to think differently and to do exactly this,” he explains. “The Academy Virtual is our effort to bring amazing teachers to students who wouldn't normally receive an opportunity for differentiated, personalized instruction.”
Positive Student Learning Environment
The goal of The Academy Virtual is for students to enjoy learning by engaging their minds through movement, hands-on learning, and interactive lessons. “Our teachers build relationships with their students. They understand how each student learns, provide one-on-one instruction, and celebrate individual victories with each student. We want students to be motivated each day and to challenge themselves to succeed in areas they once thought were impossible. We provide an online environment where they can connect, engage, and learn,” explained Arispe.
“Think of what we all know as a traditional school. Think about what we now know as a virtual school. Now, throw both of those thoughts out the window, because we are not either one of those. Our teachers engage our kids in interactive, multisensory instruction. It just so happens to be via the computer. Our kids might be jumping around, clapping their hands, waving their arms, or running around the house trying to find something that their teachers want them to find to help them learn a concept. In homes from around the world, we are bringing teaching and learning to life.” said Jimmy Arispe, Founder of The Academy Virtual.
In 2013, Mr. Arispe created The SAE School located in metro Atlanta. SAE is a year-round science, art, and entrepreneurship-focused school that teaches students from preschool to 8th grade through a project-based learning methodology. Mr. Arispe’s educational endeavors continued in 2018 when he began work establishing a school specifically designed to serve dyslexic students. “Having ADHD, and always looking for ways to make a significant impact on kids, I began working on The Academy GA. I gathered input from dyslexia experts in Atlanta and from around the country. We announced our school’s location in January 2020 and then when COVID hit in March 2020, I wasn't able to open The Academy GA in August as planned. However, with a half-full glass attitude, I quickly adjusted my plan. Shortly thereafter, The Academy Virtual was born,” said Arispe.
Now Enrolling Students
Registration is now open for students in grades 3-6 at http://www.theacademyvirtual.org. It’s not too late to find a new solution for your student if they are feeling lost in a regular online classroom. Individual tutoring is also available in all content areas.
Senate Bill 10, (SB10) a Georgia special needs scholarship gives students with an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) funds that may be used at a private school of choice. Funds for students with Dyslexia range from $5,000 - $7,500 based on individual needs.
“The Academy Virtual will host its first Fall Training Camp the last week of October, where students will receive a fun-filled, fall-themed week of daily instruction in writing, math, phonics, and structured literacy. This allows families to fully experience all that The Academy has to offer at a reduced tuition before registering for a full year. Additional themed training camps are planned for November and December. Seats are limited; register early.
