The Graham Academy, a K - 12 special education school, moves into new building and prepares for record enrollment.
Online PR News – 01-July-2014 – Kingston, PA – The Graham Academy completed its move from Luzerne to Kingston last week after eight years at its original location. The new school has been under renovations for the past several months and was completed and ready for students as The Graham Academy begins its five week Extended School Year Program last week.
The school previously had been Kindergarten through 8th grade, and was approved by the Pennsylvania Board of Education to expand it’s program to K - 12 beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. With the secondary education program licensed, The Graham Academy had been searching to find a bigger school to accommodate the rapid growth of students and the continued projected growth in the coming years. Nick Ouellette, Chief Operating Officer, explained the expansion, “As we continue to strengthen our commitment to special education, we needed to address the concerns of our current families and future families as their children move on from elementary into high school.” The Graham Academy’s new location will be able to accommodate 13 classes with a continued focus on individualized education for each student.
The Graham Academy’s primary focus is the students and ensuring they have every opportunity to participate within the school community while maintaining their individuality. An increase in student space provides the students access to larger therapy and sensory gyms, outside experiential learning and play areas, as well as future plans for a fitness center and vocational training rooms to prepare students to excel in life. The high school curriculum will include both educational and vocational training for many of the students who will be entering the work force in the coming years.
The Graham Academy will be hosting a community Open House on Thursday, August 21st, from 11 am to 6 pm for anyone interested in learning more about it’s program.
Established in 2008, The Graham Academy is a special education school in Kingston that serves students living with autism or emotional challenges. Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, 64 students will be enrolled from Kindergarten through 12th grade from 15 school districts in Luzerne, Lackawanna, Carbon, and Schuylkill counties.
