Online PR News – 27-June-2014 – Conyers, Georgia – Haver Filling Systems Earns UL Certifications For Explosion-Proof Industrial Control Panels
CONYERS, Ga. (June 25, 2014) – Haver Filling Systems, Conyers, Georgia, a leading provider of bulk material packaging solutions and filling equipment, has earned two Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certifications for explosion-proof design of industrial control panels (ICPs) in automated liquid-filling equipment.
With the certifications, Haver can deliver packaging machines with explosion-proof, purge and pressurized ICPs to customers as much as four weeks faster. The company has always integrated explosion-proof ICPs into its liquid-filling machines, but it previously needed to obtain them from UL-certified suppliers. Whereas it took approximately 12 weeks to deliver a liquid filling machine with an ICP from a supplier, Haver can now manufacture them in house and deliver its machines in about eight weeks.
“Unmatched responsiveness with every customer and exceptional safety with every machine are two of our primary objectives,” said Haver Production Manager Andreas Foeert. “Haver Filling Systems has always provided the safest equipment possible through our own innovations in machine design and by partnering with UL-listed suppliers. Now, with these certifications, we are able to significantly cut lead times, as well.”
Haver has earned UL 508A and UL 698A for products that will be used in hazardous locations. UL 508 is the industrial control standard that deals with fire, electrical and casualty hazards. UL 698A covers explosion hazards, including control equipment that will be in refineries, petrochemical facilities, offshore oilrigs, pharmaceutical plants and other locations with potentially explosive atmospheres.
Certification is a three-stage process: training, listing and inspection. UL provided training for 508 certification to 12 Haver employees in March 2014, including nine engineers. In April, UL trained the employees on UL 698 standards and processes. Haver has been a UL-listed ICP manufacturer since that time. The final step is an inspection of the company’s first ICP. UL conducts annual inspections thereafter.
UL is an independent, global safety science company that partners with manufacturers, trade associations and international regulatory authorities to promote safe working and living environments through research and standardization. Its certifications for ICPs ensure conformance to both the National Electric Code in the United States and the Canadian Electrical Code. They include proper component usage, enclosure environmental ratings, wiring and motor protection, and safety markings for equipment and components that will be used in explosion-prone environments.
Haver assembles German-engineered bulk solid and liquid packaging and filling machines in its Conyers facility. The machines fill valve, open mouth and form fill seal bags, as well as liquid and pasty filling equipment for a multitude of industries, including cement, building materials, mineral products, chemical, food, dairy, bakery, seed and pet food. The company brings 125 years of industry experience to developing and customizing packaging and filling solutions for each customer.
