A little about Bill; Bill Miller is a thirty year veteran of the ski industry. He started in the ski industry in 1984 at Aspen Leaf in Denver, Colorado working as a ski tuner and salesman. It’s wasn’t long before he was managing his first ski shop, Turning Point Sports at Copper Mountain 1986.
At this time he was starting what would become a 7 year international speed skiing career. His first international speed skiing race was at Vars, France in 1990, and following that he spent the next seven ski season’s racing around the globe mostly in Europe, reaching a top speed of 130mph. Bill suffered a bad crash in March 1995 at the location of his first race inVars, France while doing 125mph.
The following year, 1996, he decided to open Hamilton Sports with then world speed skiing record holder Jeff Hamilton. Jeff was the first person to ski over the 150mph mark. With hard work from both men Hamilton Sports doors open October 1997 and quickly became one of Aspen’s favorite ski shops. In fact Hamilton Sports has won the “Best Ski Shop” award from the Aspen Times readers more than any other ski shop.
Jeff decided in 2003 to move back to California at which point Bill bought Jeff out and became the sole proprietor of Hamilton. That store is celebrating 16 successful years, and has lead Bill to open his second location which he named after his parents, both of whom he lost in 2012. Resulting in the birth of Miller Sports in 2013.
Bill was born in Chicago in 1956 where he lived until till he was 10. Where the family moved to Bronxville, New York where his Dad worked in New York city for CBS in the broadcast industry. Bill ss the second oldest of 5 and has two brothers and two sisters. He grew up skiing with his family at Bromley Vermont and other famous east coast resort destinations. Bill’s hero is his Dad, and his ski hero’s are Jean Claude Killy and Steve McKinney(the first person to ski over 200kmh).
