Singer and songwriter Laura Whidden, co-star of "Michiana's Rising Star," will have her newest music video, "Table for One," featured on Music Zone
Online PR News – 31-May-2014 – Michiana, Michigan – When Laura Whidden wrote the songs that populate her new album You Are, she did not realize exactly how far this music would reach in touching the lives of others. “I’m invested in emotional wellness issues,” says Whidden. “I do a lot of work with high school and college kids and self-harm keeps coming up in the past couple years. I’ll sing and girls will come up afterwards and show me their scars. So with this launch I wanted to find a way to have real awareness about the issues of depression and self-harm.”
Although she wanted her new album to touch lives and let people know they were not alone in suffering from depression issues, she never imagined that the album would become as successful as it has. This summer, the video for her hit single “Table For One” will be featured on the cable show Music Zone which airs on Comcast 230, Time Warner 155, Knology 131 and Antenna 18.1.
As the co-star of the show Michiana’s Rising Star, filmed for WNIT TV and PBS, audiences are already familiar with Whidden’s emotional music style. However, You Are, which is dedicated to all those who struggle with self-injury and depression, takes her music to a new level and “Table for One” is representative of some of the deepest messages on the album. Whidden says, “When I wrote the song I was fascinated with this idea of hope growing thin. What would that look like? How would I respond to that? I thought, well I’d need to find a way to feed that hope. That’s when I realized that we all have the ability to step into the lives of people who are losing the ability to live and share the bread of hope.”
Whidden has expanded her work with several groups that help those with depression or self-injury issues, including To Write Love On Her Arms, located at www.twloha.com . “I want to let people know that they are not alone. If they come away with one message from this I hope it’s that there is a place for everyone at the table,” says Whidden.
