CROWDFUNDING UK ROADMOVIE NEEDS YOU TO FINISH THE JOURNEY
LONDON, May 27th 2014 - UK based filmmaker Craig Griffith has just launched a crowdfunding campaign for his road movie THE LONG ROAD via IndieGoGo (http://igg.me/at/FinishTheLongRoad) to raise £10k to finish shooting the film. One third of the film is already shot with what Griffith describes as “careful negotiations with my bank manager” ie. He has put his own money into the film by buying the car and shooting all of the road-trip footage.
THE LONG ROAD tells the story of a dying man travelling between London to Belfast to return the old rust bucket of an MG Midget that he stole from his dad when they fell out many years earlier. Along the way he meets people who teach him its never too late and prepare him to put things right with his dad.
Griffith says, “I wanted to tell this story because I loved the idea of a ‘British road movie’, and thought it would be a fantastic backdrop for a character study of a man facing his greatest challenge - confronting his own death.”
It’s a story that tackles big issues such as family, a sense of mortality and the meaning of life. Not only this but along the way the film gives the filmmakers an opportunity to show the diversity of Britain in a unique and different way as seen through the eyes of a character that has never taken the time to stop and smell the roses.
Griffith is no stranger to the indie trail. This is his 2nd feature film made in such a way following on from the success of his first indie hit THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS. “I have crowdfunded projects before and I really believe that it’s the way forward for independent films. By joining us on our journey you’ll get to be a part of a community that really is creating the future of cinema, where the boundaries between filmmakers and audience are being broken down”.
The team are offering some unusual perks for its Backers including owning the actual MG Midget used in the film. Griffith said, “As far as we’re aware this is the first crowdfunding campaign to offer a car as a perk”. Even if you can’t stretch to the car itself, the director is offering backers the chance to ride in the car with him as their personal chauffer. Crowdfunding allows filmmakers to ask the general public for funding. People can then make pledges for small amounts of money in return for a reward.
The campaign is running until 27th June and people can contribute at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-long-road--3/x/221409
