Surana College gets Grade ‘A’ NAAC accreditation

Surana College, affiliated to Bangalore University has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ Grade.

Online PR News – 23-May-2014 – Bangalore/Karnataka – Bangalore, May 21, 2014: Surana College, one of the leading colleges in Bangalore affiliated to Bangalore University has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ Grade. It is a proud moment for all Suranaites, as the college has secured the second highest CGPA of 3.44, of all the Bangalore university affiliated colleges.

NAAC assessing is a facilitating mechanism and helps filling in gaps of quality educational practices. An accredited institution attracts extra grants that help in better infrastructure, and fulfilling other requirements. The NAAC team while granting the accreditation appreciated the quality of teachers, well maintained infrastructure and the active role of the supportive management with social commitment. The committee was impressed with the infrastructure of the college and also the team was impressed with innovative initiatives of the college. The fact that the college also provides learning facility to visually-challenged students was appreciated.

“We constantly keep trying to touch greater heights. This accreditation reinforces our commitment to deliver best education to our students at very affordable prices. It is because of the dedicated efforts of the members of the teaching and non-teaching staff, that we have been able to build this respectable reputation for our institution. I am really proud and congratulate all my fellow members and motivate them to keep going as a strong team, like we have been for over 19 years now,’’ said Archana Surana, Managing Trustee, Surana College. “This accreditation is a certification of credibility that companies in the corporate recognize while recruiting candidates”, Mrs. Surana added.

NAAC assessment and accreditation will continuously ensure quality delivery keeping up to the five core values envisaged by the NAAC that any higher education institution should abide with for India. The values are to contribute to national development, to foster global competencies among students, to inculcate a value system among students, to promote the use of technology and to maintain a quest for excellence.

India has 723 universities, including institutions of national importance, 37204 colleges and 11,356 professional schools offering diplomas. Overall, about 28.6 million students are pursuing higher education. According to official data, less than 25% of these institutions are accredited with many of the colleges where students passing from arts and science colleges are finding it hard to get jobs or admission to higher studies.

The NAAC accreditation comes at the right time to the Surana’s as in a public notice issued to the eligible higher education institutions and universities across the country; the University Grants Commission (UGC) has made it mandatory for colleges/universities to apply for accreditation from an accrediting agency before June 1, 2014.

With the Grade ‘A’ NAAC accreditation in place, Surana College on the timelines is planning to steadily move towards autonomy, plans to get into permanent affiliation, apply for grants on need basis, focus towards achieving a deemed university status. Among the objectives are to sustain the quality practices, cater to innovation and practice inclusiveness.

The NAAC accreditation helps an institution to identify its strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities. Surana College is constantly making efforts to improve the quality in areas of teaching–learning through content enrichment; imbibing latest technology enabled methods in transaction, dissemination and evaluation; encouraging innovative and creative learning environment through capacity building and expertise; giving impetus on holistic development of learners to fulfill the standards of excellence.
