The Chris Klug Foundation raises awareness of the need for organ donors and the importance of organ donation by reaching young people though action sports events. Last year was a blast with some great events and this year looks to be even more exciting.
Online PR News – 14-May-2014 – Aspen, CO – The Chris Klug Foundation (CKF) founded by an Olympic snowboarder who won the first ever Olympic medal by an athlete after having an organ transplant is dedicated to promoting lifesaving organ and tissue donation and improving the quality of life for those touched by donation. Through action sport associated programs we reach tens of thousands of young people each year, equipping them with facts about organ donation so they can make educated decisions. We are increasing the number of organ and tissue donors by educating young people on the facts about organ and tissue donation, teaching them how to make an educated decision at the Division of Motor Vehicles about becoming a registered organ donor and how to engage in the discussion about your decision with your family and friends.
One of the highlights of last year was the Team CKF ride in the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike, this was the second time the team has done the ride. The team consists of 14 incredible men and women committed to raising awareness and funds to benefit lifesaving organ & tissue donation in exchange for guaranteed entry and team support for this popular race. All team members completed the race under the 12 hour cutoff time in an ride the covers a grueling 14,000 feet of elevation gain. CKF is extremely grateful to each team member and fans and supporters along the way, who helped the team raised $43,500 to benefit CKF so we can continue our mission to save lives by increasing awareness about donation! The Transplant Games of America is a multi-sport festival event for individuals who have undergone life-saving transplant surgeries being held this year in Houston, Texas on July 11th to the 15th. There are a multitude of events that are open to living donors, organ transplant recipients, bone marrow recipients, and a limited number of corneal and tissue transplant recipients, events include a 5k run, cycling, swimming, cornhole, volleyball and more. More than an athletic event, the Transplant Games of America highlight the critical importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation, while celebrating the lives of organ donors and recipients.
Another highlight of the summer that CKF will be participating in is the Vans Warped Tour! This is a touring extreme sports and music festival that aligns with the message and audience that CKF targets perfectly. The tour is held in venues such as parking lots or fields upon which the stages and other structures are erected in several cities across the country each year. The skateboard shoe manufacturer Vans, among others, has sponsored the tour every year since 1995 and is looking forward to its best year yet.
