The new social media site LiveOut.org, has recently undergone an elaborate expansion of it’s database of locations.
The Outdoor Social Network is a new site that aggregates a information and user-generated content into a comprehensive platform allowing people to connect based on their interests, find meetup groups, find places to go for the activities they like, check out upcoming events and find deals on gear, and much more.
One of the main pillars of Live Out is the maps feature - ‘The Navigator’ - which allows people to find places to go in their area based on the activities they like. The organization has made extensive efforts in 2014 to expand this database to become a more useful resource for it’s members. The map now includes information on places to go for over 75 different outdoor activities - everything from hiking and mountain biking trails, fishing and whitewater rafting charters, to skateparks and paintball courses. This expansion has pushed the database to over 100,000 locations in the U.S. for outdoor recreation. Powered by Google Maps, members can get directions, information and even a ground view for almost all locations. Businesses can also get on the map to help people in their area find them more easily using the map’s “Add a Spot’ feature.

Live Out is largely powered by user-generated content, recently expanding its platform to include directories of people, groups, businesses, events, blogs, forums, videos, deals, classifieds and even bucket list ideas - all organized by sport or activity. “We wanted to build a site where people could find the best local places to go based on the activities they like, and it eventually snowballed into much, much more,” says McGuire. In light of recent upgrades, they have adopted the slogan: ‘The Swiss Army Knife of Adventure Sports Sites.’
In an effort to raise awareness and give back to the community, Live Out is hosting ‘The Live Out Summer Giveaway’’ and encouraging fans to get involved on social media. Prizes include a GoPro Hero 3, iPhone 5, Nectar Sunglasses and REI gift cards for helping to spread the word.
