‘Abhiyantrikiche Shikshan: Ka ani Kase?’ written by an experienced educator in the field of engineering, helps readers to understand the processes and ramifications of getting a quality education in engineering and technology. Presented in a readable format in response to queries received from thousands of students and parents, the book provides clear guidance around the following topics:
• What is education, and how does it improve the quality of our lives?
• What are the attributes and aptitudes for an education in engineering/technology?
• What the different categories of engineering colleges in India are – government, private, autonomous, and what this implies for the students.
• What is the meaning of academic autonomy?
• How to evaluate the worth of a good institution for engineering and technology?

The book is priced at Rs. 80/- and consists of 56 pages.
About the Author:
Prof. Hemant Keshav Abhyankar, was born in Sangli in May 1949 and completed his P.G. qualification in Electrical Engineering (Control Systems) from Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli. He began teaching in the same college in 1974. He has a Ph.D. in Management.
Prof. Abhyankar was a Professor of Electronics and subsequently Vice Principal at Tatyasaheb Kore Institute of Engineering and Technology, in Kolhapur district from 1984 to 1991. Later in 1991, he was the Principal of Sanjeevani Education Society’s College of Engineering, Kopargaon in Ahmednagar.
He joined Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal Charitable Trust’s Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune as its Principal in 1994 and relinquished this position as a Director of the Institute with Autonomous status to take over the position as a Vice President of the Vishwakarma Institutes Group. During his tenure, the institute got accredited twice, received autonomous status as well as TEQIP funds. The Institute also got ISO 2001-2008 certification as the systems were well set to run nine UG, eight PG and six Ph.D. programs.
Prof. Abhyankar has worked on a number of committees of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi and AICTE, New Delhi. He was nominated as a member – Board of Governors of two regional engineering colleges (REC, Jaipur and REC, Suratkal) by MHRD, GOI.
The awards and felicitations bestowed on Prof. Abhyankar include the Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, and Pune Municipal Corporation recognizing him as Best Teacher. He has also been lauded as `Best Engineering College Principal’ at the National Level by India Society for Technical Education, New Delhi in December, 1999. He has also received the PRAJ Maha Intrapreneur Award 2009 under category B reserved for NGOs, Semi Government, Society & Trust.
Extensively travelled in India and abroad, Prof. Abhyankar has presented more than 50 research papers in International Conferences. He has been working on several bodies of various Universities and has discharged duties as an expert member in several National Level Committees.
His professional affiliations include being a senior member of IEEE, Fellow, Institution of Engineers and Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. He is also a Member and Past President, Pune Chapter of International Society of Automation (ISA), Chairman – CII – Pune Region (Education panel), Member of CII Task Force on Higher Education (Western Region) & Member of MCCIA – Research and Education panel. He is a member of the Advisory Boards of various technical institutions.
