(NASHVILLE - July 19, 2010) As a way to continue to honor and thank the U.S. Military, and to recognize that July is National Cell Phone Courtesy Month, rock band Hip Kitty and their label Luna Chica Records International (LCR) have announced that they will continue collecting used cell phones to help U.S. troops overseas connect to their families at home by contributing collected phones to Cell Phones for Soldiers. Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded in 2004 that sells phones to ReCellular, a company that recycles the phones, and uses the proceeds to purchase international calling cards for soldiers. Each phone contributed is equivalent to 60 minutes of talk time.

Used cell phones, along with iPods and MP3 players, will be accepted at all Hip Kitty shows throughout July and the rest of 2010. They can also be dropped off at LCR’s offices located at 2826 Dogwood Place in Nashville between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on holidays.

The cell phone drive is an extension of the cell phone collection efforts that began in conjunction with Hip Kitty’s performance at the VETS ROCK Freedom Celebration on July 1 at Limelight in Nashville. Hip Kitty and LCR encouraged fans to bring their used cell phones to the show promising a personalized Hip Kitty Fan Package to the fan who brought the most used phones. Pete Hizen of Franklin, Tenn., who donated seven used cell phones to the cause, received the fan package that included Hip Kitty's CD Art of War.
