Online PR News – 28-February-2014 – WEST VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA – WEST VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, February 27, 2014 – Online language learning service LingQ released a Google Chrome extension today. Language learners who use Chrome will be able to interact with any web content while utilizing LingQ’s vocabulary learning functionality and tracking tools.
Using the new Chrome extension, LingQ members can use LingQ’s vocabulary lookup, review and tracking functionality on any site on the web. Users will have two ways to use the extension. They can either import the text of the article they are reading into LingQ for study on the site or they can study the article right on the page. The “LingQ on page” feature allows the article they are looking at to be compared to their database on LingQ and the telltale blue and yellow highlighting and associated functionality to be integrated right on to the page.
“One of the most beneficial and unique features of LingQ is the ability to import any text from the internet and learn it using LingQ’s functionality,” said Mark Kaufmann, COO. “The Chrome extension is an evolution of the functionality provided by the LingQ bookmarklet which currently enables the importing of web content to LingQ. The extension still does this, although with a few additional bells and whistles, but also extends the functionality of LingQ to the page you are on so you don’t have to interrupt your browsing experience.”
When using the extension, a dashboard will appear at the top of the page showing your current vocabulary level on LingQ in your target language. Then, if you choose to study on the page, all of the words you have saved to your database previously are highlighted in yellow and can be clicked on for review. As well, all words that are new to you are shown in blue and can be clicked on for translations and to save for later review. Of course, anything you do on the page is synced and kept up to date with your learning database on LingQ.
“The Chrome extension is yet another component of our strategy for allowing language learners to benefit from all interactions throughout their day in their target language. We know that interacting with authentic content in your target language is a huge motivator and key factor which can lead to success in learning a new language well. The sooner we can get learners interacting with authentic content, the greater their likelihood of achieving their goals. By providing tools that work where our learners are interacting with the language, while still providing first class functionality, we enable our learners to immerse themselves in their target language more easily and sooner,” added Kaufmann.
The LingQ extension is available in the Chrome Web Store.
