This stunning competition by the best Chingay masters on the 7th of August 2010 in Penang is worth witnessing by locals and tourists alike.
Online PR News – 13-July-2010 – – The competition of outstanding acrobatic stunts including the balancing giant flags drew a massive crowd in 2009. Seven chingay teams, including a team each from Kedah and Perak took up the challenge, a battle of stunts that is without doubt a spectacular show.
The word chingay originated in Southeast Asia and in particular in Penang, Malaysia. In Malaysian chingay is the phonetic equivalent of a Chinese word that means “a decorated miniature stage”.
Each team’s performance is judged by five judges and a referee. Teams are given eight minutes to perform their stunts and the teams are judged by their discipline, stunt skills, their uniformity, their team spirit and their overall performance. Teams are encouraged by the loud cheers and applause coming from the crowd of spectators.
Amongst the crowd will also be 40 or more photographers from Photo Theatre. Because the event features such stunning stunts the professional photographs taken by members of the Photo Theatre quickly find their way to Kuala Lumpur.
Penang hotels will play host to many of the act’s individual participants and tourists who miss the competition might just be lucky enough to stumble across an impromptu performance in the lobby of their hotel.
The venue for the event is the Esplanade, Penang and will take place from 8pm to 11pm, there is no entry charge. The event is organised by the Penang State Government.
