Oxnard, CA – Some Boys & Girls Clubs in California and North Carolina are finding the recession a little easier to deal with, thanks to generous donations from the Gene Haas Foundation. From 2001 to 2009, the organization and its founder, philanthropist Gene Haas, have given the youth organizations 42 grants. In all, various branches of the Boys & Girls Clubs have received $870,400.
Mr. Haas became familiar with the Boys & Girls Club of Oxnard when he moved to Ventura County 10 years ago. At that time, the Boys & Girls Club was the most visible charitable organization in the area. Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme provide approximately 7,000 youth with various sports, arts, and academic programs, as well as after-school programs.
Boys & Girls Clubs provide youth of all ages with a safe place to learn, develop, grow and have access to opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise. The organization focuses on instilling a sense of power, influence, belonging, competence, and usefulness in each and every child, regardless of the type of program or service offered.
"The Boys and Girls Clubs have made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of young people, and the Gene Haas Foundation wants to see this continue," said a spokesman from the Gene Haas Foundation. “With our help, the youth organization is able to continue offering quality after-school programs, and giving kids the attention, confidence and skills they need to have a successful future."
Mr. Haas and his Foundation have supported several other branches of the youth organization through the years, as well. Boys & Girls Clubs in Ventura, Camarillo, Santa Clara, and Santa Clarita have all received Foundation grants, as well as the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
