Online PR News – 16-January-2014 – WEST VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA – WEST VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, January 15, 2014 – LingQ, an online language learning system and community, announced the start of its 90-Day Challenge today. LingQ founder Steve Kaufmann is challenging all language learners to make a significant breakthrough in their language by committing to a brief but intensive 90-Day period of study.
Starting today, Kaufmann, who speaks 12 languages, will spend the next 90 days trying to improve his Korean, from a beginner level to a high intermediate level. Steve will be vlogging about his daily activities on his YouTube channel and blog A Year in the Life of a Language Lover to demonstrate how he goes about learning a language.
“I always get asked how I go about learning a language so I thought it would be helpful for people if I documented my activities during this period, “ said Kaufmann. “I will describe the different resources I use, the steps I take and how best to take advantage of the technologies out there. Perhaps most important of all, I will share how I find the time, in my daily routine, to do this in spite of other commitments. You can apply the steps I take for Korean to whatever language you want to make a breakthrough in.”
Challenge participants will be using LingQ’s learning tools to help achieve their goals and measure results. LingQ has a vast online library where members can actively learn and upload authentic content in various languages. LingQ’s recording and statistics system makes it possible to follow learners’ progress towards their goals.
“There are many people out there who, for whatever reason, are stuck at a level in a language and want to get to the next level. I’m hoping this challenge will give people the impetus they need to commit to and achieve their desired breakthrough.”
“For most of us it is very hard to maintain a high level of intensity for a year, but it should be possible for three months, even for very busy people”, says Steve Kaufmann, “Doing this can raise our language to a new level, and teach us new habits that strengthen us for the next longer challenges”.
“I have dabbled in Korean, off and on, for a number of years, a few months here and a few months there. However, I am still limited in what I can say, and mostly don’t understand native speakers. In the next 90 days I will try to take my Korean to the next level by intensive reading and listening, learning new words and phrases, and talking to native speakers. As soon as I complete this challenge, I plan to travel to Korea to further activate my new skills. I would encourage all language learners to join me for this exciting learning journey and see what we can achieve in 90 days”.
