Online PR News – 06-January-2014 – Noida, UP – The much awaited CAT 2013 results, which will decide the fate of 1.74 lakh students, will indeed be announced on January 14, 2014. While talking to MBAUniverse.com on January 4, CAT convener Dr Rohit Kapoor of IIM Indore said, “Yes, CAT 2013 results will be declared on January 14.” MBAUniverse.com estimates that more than 15,000 students are likely to get a call from IIMs for Personal Interview round.
IIMs have increased their capacity to accommodate more students from this year. The 13 Indian Institutes of Management have altogether added more than hundred seats for admission year 2014, taking the total tally to 3335 seats, across 13 IIMs. “This year’s CAT Aspirants will have greater opportunity for admission into the IIMs,” Dr Rohit Kapoor, convener of CAT 2013, said, adding, “Across all IIMs, 115 seats have been added for B-School admissions this year, taking the total number of seats in IIMs to 3,335.”
To arrive at an approximate number of IIM calls, MBAUniverse.com studied the Admission Policies of leading IIMs, and also spoke to Prof. Hari Sreekumar, Chairperson of Admissions, IIM Tiruchirappalli who said that, “the new IIMs have confirmed that they will be collectively calling 10,000 candidates for their 800 seats”. Older IIMs will however follow their own process, each calling approximately 2000-4000 candidates. For instance, IIM Indore has announced that it will be calling 4510 candidates for its 451 seats. Many candidates are likely to get multiple calls. In the end, more than 15000 candidates will end up getting interview calls to IIMs. This will infact mirror the top 10% of the CAT test takers – which are approx 17,000 in number.
This large number of calls will impact admissions to PGDM B-schools, where baring 5-6 institutes, virtually all others in the Top 25 PGDM B-schools category will have to wait for their turn, after IIMs decide their pick.
Top IIMs to call candidates more selectively
The top 6 IIMs get the cream of the candidates, so they will be calling candidates more selectively with each calling between 2000-4000 candidates for the personal interview round.
