Michael J. Wilson is a senior tax executive with over 30 years of tax consulting experience. He has a unique combination of leadership, technical and operational skills and extensive knowledge of IRS Tax code and specializes in 1031 like-kind exchanges.
Mike has worked with many multinational corporations to assist them in meeting their tax function objectives and move toward a best-cost, highest value operational model.
Mike currently leads the “1031 Like-Kind Exchange Team” & “Tax Advisory” component of MIT Associates Inc. Tax Accounting and Risk Advisory Service practice in Seattle. In that role he assists high net worth individual clients & institutional clients in managing tax risk, improve operational effectiveness and efficiency and drive value from the tax function thru 1031 exchanges.
Mike joined MIT Associates Inc. in 2007 as a Senior Tax Executive, and has hands on experience in the tax compliance and reporting functions, and with the significant 1031 exchanges at MIT Associates Inc. Mike has played a key role in a number of tax related mergers & acquisitions, restructurings and reorganizations at the company. Today he is contributing to MIT Associates Inc. strategic realignment, the divestiture of the Diagnostics business, and through his role on MIT's Finance council, the global reorganization of the company's finance organization.
Prior to joining MIT Associates Inc., Mike worked in the tax department at Canadian Tire. His experience in public accounting was with Price Waterhouse and with Evans Martin, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1992.
Mike has practiced as both a lawyer and an accountant (Touche Ross, Mintz & Partners), has worked for the Bank of Montreal (head of Strategic & Tax Planning), Ontario Finance (senior tax solicitor) and he was recently with CIBC (VP Tax Advisory, General Tax Counsel). He is currently providing tax services to several U.S. and Canadian firms on a consulting basis.
Mike provides tax advice to clients on domestic, financial and international tax transactions and issues, advises on transfer pricing, SOX implementation for tax departments and handles tax disputes and tax litigation.
Mike is a member of the American Tax Foundation, Tax Executives Institute (member of the Canadian Tax Committee) and International Fiscal Association. He is a Certified Public Accountant, and has completed the CICA In-depth Tax Course.
