Eccotopia says that it will be ready to draft a feasibility and site study, upon completion of preliminary consultations with stakeholders at its planned Kgalgadi South project.
Online PR News – 29-November-2013 – Cape Town, South Africa – Arial Haskins, Director of Operations at South Africa based sustainable forestation company Eccotopia, Ltd., has announced that, following the completion of a consultation with stakeholders in the Kgalgadi South region of Botswana, the company hopes to be ready to commence a feasibility study and site survey that could potentially set the framework for phased implementation of what will be one of the company’s largest Megafolia© plantation projects to date.
The Megafolia© tree is a cross-pollination hybrid of 5 other tree varieties, created to produce a rapid growth hardwood tree that flourishes under even the harshest conditions.
The planned large scale Megafolia© tree plantation project, through which Eccotopia aims to introduce vegetation to an area equivalent to 40,000 hectares in the Kgalagadi South region, could create up to 200 long-term jobs and hopefully demonstrate to locals that agrarian usage of the land can be just as lucrative as one relying on the rearing of livestock.
Mr. Haskins said, “Although this project is still very much in the planning stages, we are preparing for an intensive investigation that would identify and quantify what must be done in order to begin implementation in a timely fashion. One of our first tasks would be to find appropriate labor and, when we reach this stage, we will confine ourselves to sourcing this from the local communities in and around the Kgalgadi South region as opposed to transporting labor in from other areas.”
“Because a primary aim of this project is the re-education of the local farmers, we are keen to focus on demonstrating the speed with which, in theory, an agrarian model can begin generating income and with that in mind, we intend to concentrate on plantation usage that revolves around timber products, biomass to energy and biofuels,” Mr. Haskins concluded.
