About Qwana Reynolds

As police sirens rang through the streets of New York, all one could here is the screaming voice of a young damaged black woman fighting for the rights of her family, and what she now realizes as an end to the cycle of poverty, drugs and crime which plagued her very upbringing. What she identifies now as, “The storm that brought the calm”, in her inspirational book titled, Friend In Your Pocket, author Qwana M. “BabyGirl” Reynolds-Frasier has made it her life’s passion to inspire change in communities abroad. Relying on her spirituality to better herself as a person, and utilizing her intelligence and drive to break through the stereotypes created by society, Qwana has never doubted God’s plan for her life. While traumatic experiences have constantly played a role in testing her strength and will to survive, it is Qwana’s love for writing that has allowed her to heal and come to terms with the cards she has been dealt. She has turned her pain into a plan.

“God sets the stage, but you never know how it is going to play out,”

A positive theme Qwana explains has motivated her in her life pursuit to happiness and ultimately success. Growing up on the streets of New York, with a father who was in and out of her life; dealing with his own childhood traumas through self medication and a mother desperately trying to hold on to her family but who lost herself in the process, Qwana knew it was up to her to find her way and care for her other siblings and relatives. With little guidance and an extreme amount of hope, Qwana excelled as a young scholar who slowly began to discover the impact of self-motivation and believing her God-given vision of prosperity. From an honor student at the prestigious Children Store Front School in Harlem, to a college graduate of City College University in New York City, to an aspiring doctor and fashion designer turned social worker, Qwana struggled to identify her calling in a world that seemed to constantly give then take. From failing to experience a true childhood to having success as a young mother, sister and wife; Qwana’s life hardships all prepared her for what she would become. While author was a title Qwana thought to seek only in her dreams, it became a practical role for the little girl who had always found solace in helping provide for others. The little girl who helped raise and provide for her younger brother, who took in other people’s children and raised them as her own, who grew into a young woman that defended her son from the police and has provided a home for her entire family mother and brother included, had now come to understand the power of her life story; where forgiveness and hope were woven through the sustainable fabric of her odyssey called life.

Her debut book, Friend In Your Pocket, is much more than another uplifting book; rather it is a collection of relatable life experiences that open up a dialogue for topics unspoken. From financial issues, to social trends, to racial profiling, Friend In Your Pocket is that person or thing you turn to when life has you down, weak, confused, feeling lost and thirsty for positivity. Qwana has included in her smash selling book quotes that have inspired her writings from Sheroes and Heroes such as: Oprah, Whitney Houston, Wendy Williams, Jay-Z, Gandhi, Mariah Carey, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Marvin Sapp, Yolanda Adams, Maya Angelou, Kendrick Lamar and a host of other personal favorites.

Growing up and having to take on the responsibilities of her parents at a young age, Qwana found a friend in the Holy Bible, the Holy Quran, and other spiritual books, in her hardships, in her family, and in her accomplishments. While she remembers not having consistent individuals in her life that would give her their undivided attention and lend an ear, she used the positives within her life to motivate and encourage herself to keep pushing through the “No’s” and the “Can’t’s”. Inspired by her own trials and tribulations as well as those of others around her, Qwana hopes Friend In Your Pocket will serve as the “concrete filler for your cracked spirit.” This spiritual compilation is a book of reassurance for those who are feeling out of sorts, out of people to confide in or depressed, reminding them that they don’t have to be alone. Friend In Your Pocket is the “conventional daily journal” of a woman who has escaped the darkness of her life and discovered spiritual wealth and joy. Qwana hopes to share with the world the experiences that have helped her to grow into a phenomenal woman that is still here and still standing.

Qwana challenges all to use their sword (words) wisely; swords have the power to uplift, protect, or injure. Remember… Your Determination Determines Your Destination!
