LAO Condemns Violence in Tripoli

Calls for Restraint to Prevent Further Escalation

Online PR News – 20-November-2013 – Washington/DC – The Libyan American Organization (LAO) strongly condemned the violence that took place in Tripoli today. They called on all parties involved and the Libyan people as a whole to exercise the utmost restraint and discretion to minimize further violence and escalation.

In a statement following the outbreak of violence on November 15, 2013, LAO said:

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and pray for those who were injured to recover quickly and be reunited with their families and loved ones.

“The LAO fully supports people’s right to protest and express their views peacefully, and stands in solidarity with the Libyan people during this pivotal time to face the forces behind this violence and build a peaceful and prosperous Libya.

“We call on the Transitional Government, the General National Council (GNC) and local councils to take immediate action to hold the perpetrators accountable for their crimes, assert the rule of law and restore security and order in the country.

“This tragic incident is another reminder to all of us that acts of violence left unanswered will only bring more violence and empower the perpetrators.

“While the LAO believes that the situation in Libya is volatile and there are more challenges and risks ahead, we continue to be hopeful about the strong will of the Libyan people to stand united for a safe and peaceful Libya during this transitional phase.”
