11/19/2013

Production will be only in Ventura Coutny to feature live music from Ventura College’s 52-piece symphony orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s famed score along with a chorus during performances

Online PR News – 19-November-2013 – Ventura, Calif. – Ventura County Ballet Company (VCBC), a community staple renowned for producing unforgettable showcases, working with world-class professional dancers and choreographers, and training ballerinas to be accomplished dancers, will celebrate its milestone 15th anniversary with another extraordinary production of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s treasured holiday classic “The Nutcracker.”

This year’s performances will be held at two venues: Saturday, Nov. 23, and Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, and additional performances on Saturday, Dec. 21, and Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Ventura College Performing Arts Center.

Included in this year’s cast during selected performances will be Helen Yunker, 92, local community activist, art patron and member of the Ventura County Ballet Board of Directors, who will portray the Maid in the party scene for a performance at Ventura College’s Helen Yunker Theater, as well as David Armstrong and Kevin Clerici from the Downtown Ventura Organization. Also performing will be DAnce ART, an innovation in VCBC’s 15th year, which is an ensemble comprised of elite dancers who volunteer to perform in various community events to raise monies for local charities.

VCBC’s “The Nutcracker” will be the only production to feature live music from Ventura College’s 52-piece symphony orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s famed score along with a chorus during the performances.

Guest artists featured in this year's ballet will be Barry Kerollis, Ryan Camou, Mauricio Vera and Season Winquest. Students from Ballet Academy Ventura, the training school for the 15-year-old Ventura County Ballet Company, will also be participating.

VCBC is an avid supporter of the community, performing regularly for programs that allow young people to see live ballet performances. Each year, the ballet company donates hundreds of tickets to “The Nutcracker” to local non-profits such as The Boys & Girls Club and Casa Pacifica. This year, discounts will be available for active military and groups, in addition to child and senior pricing.
