Eccotopia hope to finalize a contract in which it will provide access to a sizeable area of land to fuel a new biomass plant.
Online PR News – 18-November-2013 – Cape Town, South Africa – Cape Town, South Africa - Julian Moses, Chief Executive Officer at South Africa based sustainable forestation company Eccotopia, Ltd. has announced that the company hopes to finalize a contract in which it will provide the owners of a newly-constructed biomass plant with access to 10,000 hectares of land upon which Megafolia© trees have been planted.
Mr. Moses said, “Technology has advanced to the point where it is conceivable that fuels derived from biomass will, one day, be able to compete on price with the traditionally-refined fossil fuels that are sadly responsible for so much of the pollution to which our planet has been subjected over the last 100 years.”
“By undertaking to provide access to this sizeable area of land and the Megafolia© plantations thereon, Eccotopia is doing what it can to expedite the arrival of the day when we can all reduce our dependence upon fossil fuels.”
Eccotopia’s Megafolia© Paulownia tree is a cross-pollination hybrid of 5 different trees and is the world’s fastest growing hardwood tree. The Megafolia© lends itself well to biomass applications insofar as it is a rapid-growth, renewable source of base material that can proliferate in the most inhospitable of environments and be harvested within 2 years of planting.
The Megafolia© tree is capable of replenishing itself - a new tree can grow from the stump left behind after the adult tree is harvested. A further advantage is that, owing to a high rate of photosynthesis, the Megafolia© Tree is capable of reducing “greenhouse” effects to a significantly greater extent than other species.
Wood from harvested Megafolia© trees has a plethora of uses for construction and furniture making timber while the leaves are excellent cattle feed.
