Neuro-oncologist and nurse practitioner at The Long Island Brain Tumor Center at Neurological Surgery, P.C. (NSPC), will be honored by Voices Against Brain Cancer at their Third Annual Run for Rob.
Online PR News – 09-September-2013 – ROCKVILLE, CENTRE, N.Y. – Neuro-oncologist Jai Grewal, M.D., Co-Medical Director of The Long Island Brain Tumor Center at Neurological Surgery, P.C. (NSPC), and Michelle Almaliah, N.P., nurse practitioner with the Center, will be honored by Voices Against Brain Cancer at their Third Annual Run for Rob. The run/walk, which is named in memory of Dr. Robert Bernstein, will take place September 22, 2013 at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY.
Dr. Grewal, who is a resident of Roslyn, NY, will receive the Robert Bernstein Humanitarian Award. Ms. Almaliah, a resident of Syosset, NY, will receive the Compassionate Care Award. In addition to being honored, Dr. Grewal and Ms. Almaliah have enlisted the support of the center’s physicians, staff, and patients, as well as their local communities, to raise critically needed funds to support Voices’ mission.
Voices Against Brain Cancer is a national not-for-profit organization that has the mission of finding a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness in the medical community and providing support to patients and their caregivers.

Ms. Almaliah notes that both her Center colleagues and the Syosset community have already been very generous, and that she looks forward to enlisting the support of local educators once the school year gets in full swing.
The Long Island Brain Tumor Center at Neurological Surgery, P.C. offers a multi-disciplinary approach to treating brain tumors, provided by a team of more than 20 physicians and surgeons with various sub-specialties. The team works in concert with each patient's established health care professionals, and treats primary brain and spinal tumors, as well as metastases.

Jai Grewal, M.D. is a neuro-oncologist who specializes in the management of primary brain and spine tumors, central nervous system metastases, and neurological complications of cancer. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston University and his medical degree from Spartan Health Sciences University. He completed a Yale University-affiliated internal medicine internship at Griffin Hospital (Derby, CT); residency in neurology at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, TX); and neuro-oncology fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX).
Michelle Almaliah, N.P. is a certified adult nurse practitioner. She received her bachelor’s in nursing from Binghamton University and her Masters degree in Nursing from Hunter-Bellevue School Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in the neuro-surgical ICU at NYU’s Tisch Hospital for seven years. On completion of her master’s degree, she worked as nurse practitioner for an orthopaedic spine surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital and as neurosurgical nurse practitioner at NYU Langone Medical Center. She has more than 15 years of experience in caring for brain and spine patients.
