PORTLAND, Ore. -- Tomorrow, August 29, Google will host an Oregon Get Your Business Online (GYBO) event, a free and fast way for local businesses to get online. Since the statewide program began in 2012, 1700 Oregon businesses have taken advantage of free Google tools to launch a website and grow their businesses online. Getting online represents an enormous economic opportunity for Oregon businesses. While 97% of internet users look online for local products and services online, 57% of Oregon’s small businesses lack a website.

“I’m always looking for ways to help entrepreneurs grow their companies and create jobs in Oregon, and am glad to join Google in making this opportunity available," said Senator Jeff Merkley.

Businesses looking to get their companies online are encouraged to RSVP for the seminar that kicks off at 9:00 a.m. at Urban Studio in Portland’s Pearl District by visiting www.gybo.com/Oregon. Participants will leave with a new website and access to free internet tools and resources -- all before the event event wraps at noon and at zero cost to each business.

Google’s partners include Intuit, who is providing their popular website tools to attendees for free. Other community partners include the Oregon Small Business Development Centers, the Governor’s Office of Economic & Business Equity, Portland Business Alliance, MercyCorps NW, Women Construction Owners & Executives USA, Oregon Micro Enterprise Network, Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce, and the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber, among others.

If you are unable to attend the GYOB event, these easy and free resources will still be available. Visit GYBO.com/Oregon after August 29 to get a free website and find more online tools for your company.
