New technology aims to change the way people shop online
Online PR News – 08-August-2013 – Boston, MA – Dressformer Inc. is a recently-launched startup that has created an innovative 3D online fitting technology. The product revolutionizes online shopping, allowing customers to try on clothing and shoes pre-purchase on photo-realistic, to-scale avatars of themselves. On July 31st, Dressformer took part in MassChallenge’s annual Startup Showcase, an evening gathering at which the 128 finalist companies came together to present their products and services. A few finalists made live pitches to celebrity judges as part of the “Fish Tank”, in collaboration with sponsor Fish & Richardson.
Dressformer has partnered with three fellow MassChallenge companies thus far. The first partner was Mariwear, a new, innovative line of women’s apparel designed to enable a woman to get out of her bra and get comfortable but still feel dressed. This was soon followed by Thinx; a panty product company with a humanitarian mission that “thinks of you and of girls around the world”; and finally by Lallitara, a company working to revive the livelihoods of India’s ragpicker population by transforming their daily sari collections into products people love. All three companies will have their merchandise included in Dressformer’s online catalog. Dressformer’s booth was located in a special section of the venue reserved for fashion-related companies and shared the space with its new fashion partners. The evening was a bustling networking hive, as entrepreneurs mingled and presented their ideas to one another. Dressformer’s presentation was especially eye-catching; a six-foot-tall screen showcased the 3D avatar trying on various outfits in our Facebook application, including some designs by Mariwear. The technology appeared even more dynamic as CEO Vagan Martirosyan used a LEAP motion sensor to control the avatar’s movements from midair.
Following the Startup Showcase, Dressformer is continuing to expand and develop with the help of the accelerator program. Several style bloggers and fashion designers have visited the offices to meet with the company, and Dressformer continues to forge new partnerships with other MassChallenge finalists in the fashion industry. Dressformer Inc. has attracted a great deal of media attention, and has been profiled in The Boston Globe, Reuters, BusinessWire, CrashpadBoston, Boston Business Journal, Bloomberg.com, The Wall Street Journal, and Yahoo Finance.
