Coworking Rochester Celebrates First Year Anniversary

Coworking Rochester, the first and only coworking space for officeless professionals in Rochester, is celebrating its first year anniversary.

Online PR News – 11-June-2010 – – For many, the prospect of a cubically-confined existence is not a particularly exciting one.

RIT Graduate David Moffitt felt the same way – he wanted to work in an environment that was more conducive to a generation of home office workers and telecommuters. One year ago he founded Coworking Rochester, the city’s first and only communal, drop-in office space that combines the best social elements of the coffee shop/cafe culture, with the stability and professionalism of an office environment.

“Today’s technologies have made the office environment obsolete for many,” said Moffitt. “A desk, Wi-Fi, cell phones and laptops are all the tools most people need to successfully fill their job roles. At Coworking Rochester, we have super-fast Wi-Fi, spacious desks, a conference room, a welcoming and positive atmosphere, and all the free coffee you can drink. Coworking is the next evolution in work environments, and many individuals and companies alike are realizing it.”

After a first year of experimentation and lessons learned, Coworking Rochester continues to attract more of the city’s office-less workers. At Coworking Rochester, freelancers, entrepreneurs, web developers, graphic designers, copywriters, contract workers, independent business owners, and more, all work alongside one another, and at times, even collaborate together. This is just one of the many benefits coworking offers members, according to Moffitt.

“Coworking is an excellent way for freelancers to lend some credibility to their business,” said Moffitt. “Many people working here today have tried to meet a client at a restaurant or coffee shop and it just didn’t work. Whether it was the noise, distractions, lack of privacy, or spotty Internet connection, they came here because they needed a more professional place to conduct their business, or to just escape their own four walls.”
