RS422 to Ethernet connectivity enables real-time information transfer between warehouse floor and back-office control system to optimize logistical operations.
Online PR News – 11-July-2013 – NASHVILLE, TN—July 09th, 2013 – NASHVILLE, TN—July 9th, 2013 — Perle Systems, a global provider of advanced serial to Ethernet and secure device networking solutions, reveals that Sainsbury’s has integrated Perle Terminal Servers into their Warehouse Distribution Systeme.
Every year, 1.2 billion cases filled with products pass through Sainsbury’s Waltham Point Warehouse in Essex. The sophisticated Warehouse Control System (WCS) tracks and sorts each case every step of the way. As these cases travel through up to 180 warehouse chutes the WCS sorts them into product categories such as dairy and canned goods. Each chute is fitted with a thin client video display that is part of the WCS. Perle IOLAN Terminal Servers are used to provide the RS422 to Ethernet connectivity between the COM-Port on the chute-displays and the WCS.

The case and content information gathered at each video display station is critical to ensure optimum logistical operations at Sainsbury’s through the Warehouse Control System.
“RS422 connections are extremely common in rugged environments,” says Joe Perle, CEO at Perle Systems. “Reliability and dependability of this data transmission protocol is crucial and we are proud to work with Sainsbury’s on this application.”
