England now makes sparkling wines to rival some of the finest French Champagne. The public can sample the latest from Nyetimber vineyards at this event held at The Vineyard, Newbury, in August.

For over 20 years, Nyetimber has been making sparkling wines that rival the very best in the world. A true pioneer, Nyetimber was the very first producer to craft English sparkling wines made from the three celebrated grape varieties found in Champagne: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
On Sunday 11th August, the hotel, famed for its extensive wine cellar of 30,000 bottles from over 20 countries, will be showcasing several of Nyetimber’s finest wines. Guests will be invited to taste the fruits of England’s soil over four delicious courses created by Executive Chef, Daniel Galmiche.

The Nyetimber estate covers West Sussex and Hampshire an area that has been used for grapes for centuries - they are first recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086.
Nyetimber's 8 vineyards grow the classic varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot Meunier from carefully selected clone-rootstock combinations. Each site has been specially chosen owing to the combination of its soil, aspect and mesoclimate.
Employing a large team who are solely dedicated to the management of the vineyard throughout the year, Nyetimber also have viticultural and oenology consultants from Epernay, in France, to advise on the best practice in the vineyard and winery.
Using a traditional champagne methods to producer their top quality wines, Nyetimber gently press their grapes as whole bunches in Coquard presses to extract only the best juice, which are meticulously processed and fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Following blending and bottling, the wines are laid down for secondary fermentation and aging for a minimum of three years. Before being ready to drink, the wines are disgorged, and a further few months is granted to the wines to allow for their integration.
