Online PR News – 03-July-2013 – Mumbai – The Design Degree Show 2013, marked the passing out of the 2013 batch at the prestigious Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay. In conjunction with the show, a conference was hosted on 22nd & 23rd June, presenting interesting viewpoints on Design by influential design professionals from the industry.
The session started with panel speakers including Prof. GG Ray (IDC), Assoc. Prof. Sumant Rao (IDC), Rakesh Saxena (MRVC), Geetika Kambli (Future Factory), Pankaj Jhunja (Tata Motors), Kaushik Roy (Reliance Industries) and Narendra Ghate (Tata Elxsi), amongst others.
An eclectic mix of creativity, design and business; the seminar presented interesting and contrary viewpoints. Speaking on Design Strategy, Future Factory’s Geetika Kambli introduced young designers to the integration of strategic thinking into Design. Using examples of Future Factory’s work on leading brands in India, she said, “Design is about imagination and inspiration. But it is sponsored by business which is more objective and often short-term. Design Strategy is a useful tool to manage this contradiction and to push the boundaries of what Design can achieve”.
“Design will always have to deal with conflict. Those who have the power to imagine are the ones who bring great work to the industry” are the inspiring words that Mr. Kaushik Roy, Reliance Industries left with the students of design. Pankaj Junjha from Tata Motors spoke about success factors in the automobile industry “A designer usually wears multiple hats, yet today’s time clearly calls for specialists”.
The day continued with interesting presentations by E Suresh(Studio Eeksaurus), Manuj Dhariwal(Madrat Games), Shyam Narayan(Dig Design Studio) and Monica Bordegoni-Polytecnico di Milano. IDC, IIT-Bombay is one of India’s premier Design Institutes.
