Online PR News – 02-July-2013 – Minneapolis – MINNEAPOLIS AND EAGAN, MINNESOTA – Hundreds of Eagan athletes will sign up for football soon. They’ll also clean and replace safety gear.

Eagan orthodontics expert Dr. Jennifer Eisenhuth reminds players that mouth guards are an important part of their safety equipment, and they need to have them checked for proper fit and replaced if necessary.

For the past seven years, Eisenhuth has made it easy for Eagan Athletic Association players to have the ultimate in mouth guard protection, and this year is no different. She once again is sponsoring the league by providing mouth guards to players who need them.

Providing this sponsorship has helped players understand the importance of wearing mouth guards while playing any contact sport, said Eisenhuth, whose practice offers traditional and aesthetic orthodontic treatment options to patients, such as clear braces and Invisalign retainers.

“This sponsorship has enabled us to successfully spread the word about how helpful a well-fitting mouth guard is in preventing significant damage to the teeth, gums, lips and cheeks,” said Eisenhuth, St. Paul braces provider. “It’s given us an opportunity to perform mouth guard checks to ensure proper fit. If they don’t fit well, we take molds and have new custom guards made for the players.”

When players buy over-the-counter mouth guards from athletic stores, finding one that fits properly can be difficult. An improper fit can cause discomfort and lack of adequate protection, said Eisenhuth, an orthodontist who also treats patients from Minneapolis and St. Paul.

“We know that the more comfortable it is and the better it fits, the more likely players are to wear them,” she said. “Even though they’re required gear when playing contact sports, requirement alone isn’t always enough if we’re talking about a mouth guard that leaves the player feeling like he can’t breathe or close his mouth properly.”
