Online PR News – 02-July-2013 – Dubai – The first of three UAE charities supported by Burger Bureau received a cheque last month from the co-owners Mr Scott Sorensen and Mr Trevor Woodward to launch its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, “Real Love. Change for Good”.

Executive Director of Operation Smile UAE, Morag Cromey-Hawke, was presented with a AED1,000 donation from restaurant managers Luke Greenhow, while the two other charities – World Vision and the Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter – both received a AED500 payment.

According to Trevor, the money donated to charity comes directly from the Burger Bureau restaurant operation, with no added cost to the consumer.

“For every burger sold, the diner is asked to pick out a token favouring one of these three charities – and the charity with the highest total of coins in a month is given a donation of AED1,000, while the other two receive AED500 each,” he said.

“In this way, UAE residents can feel they are contributing to a good cause, but we are not adding to their food bill,” added Scott, who said the company was committed to CSR as an integral part of its working ethics and practices.
Operation Smile, an international children’s charity that provides free surgery and after-care to children born with a cleft palate facial deformity, set up a UAE foundation in 2011 and has been involved in missions to Jordan, Morocco, the Philippines, India and China.

World Vision is an international organisation that addresses issues that affect the poorest children worldwide with a sponsorship programme and initiatives to improve education, provide clean drinking water and health benefits, increase agriculture production and provide emergency aid.

The third charity, the Abu Dhabi Animal Shelter, was established in 2010 under the management of the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, and works to save the lives of animals through adoption and foster care, with temporary housing in new catteries and dog kennels.

“By committing to these three organisations as our chosen charities, we are offering customers a choice – all are equally worthy,” said Scott.

Burger Bureau was launched last November and the first outlet is located on the 3rd Floor Gourmet Republic in New Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi – outlets in Al Reem and Khalifa City are due to open this summer.
