SGS successfully attended the Building Test Expo in Cologne, Germany on June 11-13, 2013, with SGS representatives from around the globe who were on hand at stand B-12 Hall 1. SGS delegates from the Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan and South Africa, highly trained in testing and certification, were onboard to present the long list of SGS building materials testing and consulting services. Mario Delamboy, Ramon Vincente, Juli Gahi, Jack Kuo and Andreas Baptist provided information on the broad range of SGS mechanical, physical, chemical and non-destructive testing methods.
Building Test Expo is a new international exhibition and technical forum dedicated to effective testing and certification throughout the building supply chain. Increased innovation, quality, safety and sustainability in buildings and building materials were promoted during the three-day event by introducing advanced testing technologies and processes. SGS recognized the opportunity to present its global product testing and system certification, auditing and consultancy services to a broad audience due to the July 1, 2013 effective date of the Constructions Products Regulation requiring CE marking for all construction products sold within the European Union.

Andreas Baptist outlined the benefits of CE marking (http://www.sgs.com/en/Construction/Services-Related-to-Materials/Construction-Products-Regulation-CE-Marking.aspx) for manufacturers, importers, distributors, specifiers and purchasers in an extremely informative presentation entitled, “CE Marking - What's in it for me?”. Mr. Baptist tackled the important questions of whether CE marking would increase sales and improve upon product quality, answered the ultimate question of whether voluntary CE marking makes sense and explained the advantages of comparing similar products according to manufacturer Declaration of Performance. Technical sessions with short presentations on CE marking under the Construction Products Regulation were also held.
