Local Orthodontic Practice Donates Free Mouth Guards to Windsor Knight Football League

Bernstein Orthodontics gives back to Sonoma County through its Play It Safe Mouth Guard Program, benefiting youth athletes in the community.

Online PR News – 27-June-2013 – Windsor, California – Bernstein Orthodontics announces its “Play It Safe Mouth Guard Program” benefiting youth athletes across Sonoma County. The program aims to prevent mouth and jaw injuries to children and teen athletes in the community by providing professionally fitted mouth guards.

The Windsor Knight Football League is the first to take advantage of the program with over 100 participants planning to attend Bernstein’s July event. The event will provide players with a free, professionally fitted mouth guard to best protect their teeth during the season. Due to the program’s success, Bernstein Orthodontics plans to offer mouth guards to other leagues in the county as a community service initiative.

President of the Windsor Knights league Eric Litchfield said, "Most people think about helmets and shoulder pads when they think about football safety equipment for their kids. Just as important is a high quality mouth guard that protects the teeth and jaw from damage and injury. A high quality, proper fitting mouth guard also helps protect players from concussion. This donation from Bernstein Orthodontics will help protect our players, and the Windsor Knights board, coaching staff, and parents are very grateful to have this opportunity and would like to thank Bernstein Orthodontics for their generosity."

The National Youth Sports Safety Foundation reports that athletes who do not wear protective mouth guards are 60 times more likely to damage teeth. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention adds that more than half of the 7 million sports and recreation-related injuries that occur each year are sustained by children as young as 5-years-old. This poses the question, why are youths not wearing mouth guards?

Wearing a mouth guard is a simple and effective way to prevent injuries. All children, teens and adults should wear protective mouth guards when participating in any sports related activity. Dr. Bernstein, founder of Bernstein Orthodontics, decided to take action and founded the Bernstein Orthodontics “Play It Safe Mouth Guard Program.”

“Our mission is ‘to make a meaningful difference in the smiles we create, the lives we touch and the communities we are privileged to serve.’ I truly believe it is our privilege and responsibility to give back to the communities that have so graciously supported Bernstein Orthodontics over the years. This Mouth Guard Program makes our mission come to life, in a very real way,” said Dr. Rael Bernstein.
