Online PR News – 26-June-2013 – 24.06.2013 – SGS opened its state-of-the-art laboratory for drilling equipment inspection (DEI) services in the Tanggu district of Tianjin, China in May 2013.

The new DEI lab offers the highest levels of advanced testing methods in accordance with DS-1, NS-2 and API standards. Professional and qualified inspectors, trained by experts from SGS Australia and awarded DS-1 certificates after examination, have access to advanced equipment and perform gauge inspections using electromagnetic inspection (EMI) units, ultrasonic testing (UT) wall thickness gauge, VT endoscope, portable magnetic particle testing (MPI), pit endoscope, lead gauge, profile gauge, OD/ID gauge, black-light equipment, etc.

Drilling equipment inspection services (http://www.sgs.com/~/media/Global/Documents/Flyers%20and%20Leaflets/SGS-IND-NDT-Drilling-Equipment-Inspection-leaflet-EN-12.ashx) are conducted in the oil and gas industry upstream to inspect drill string, including drill pipes, bottom hole assembly (BHA), top drive, elevators and slips and to test tubing and casing (OCTG). Inspections implement highly-advanced testing methods such as electro-magnetic inspection (EMI), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), liquid penetrant inspection (LPI), ultrasonic inspection (UT) as well as dimension and visual inspection.

With the new DEI laboratory in China, SGS provides clients multiple solutions. SGS inspectors and equipment can be sent to work on-site anywhere in the world or drill pipes and tools may be tested at the SGS DEI yard in Tanggu. The one-stop SGS solution covers inspection throughout the supply chain as well as lab testing.

SGS Drilling Equipment Inspection Services

Drill pipe inspection (http://www.sgs.com/en/Oil-Gas/Asset-Integrity-Management-Services/Rig-Inspection-Drill-Pipe-Inspection-and-Tubular-Inspection.aspx), scheduled at regular intervals dependent upon drilling conditions and previous failure, aims to locate and identify internal and external pitting, cuts, gouges, localized wall loss and fatigue cracks all of which are detrimental to the integrity of pipe intended for use in drilling operations. SGS DEI services expose defects early and accurately to avoid serious damage, assure smooth operation and minimize financial risk.

SGS offers cost-effective and independent professional services to ensure operational safety and reliability. Committed to maintaining the standards required by the oil and gas industry, SGS expert inspectors monitor the condition of drilling equipment to detect and locate internal and external corrosion, pitting, cuts, gouges, wall loss and fatigue cracks before they result in severe damage. Skilled SGS experts ensure the operational integrity of drilling equipment according to all relevant regulations and standards and cost-effectively manage safety with comprehensive inspection and risk ranking. Furthermore, experienced SGS professionals take appropriate action in advance to protect against undetectable damage and predict potential risk to avoid preventable failure.

With over one thousand projects successfully completed for prestigious partners in the oil and gas industry, SGS delivers unrivaled experience, expertise, specialized engineers and technicians and worldwide resources. SGS is the first choice among major operators and drilling contractors around the globe seeking advanced, reliable inspection.
