Online PR News – 07-June-2013 – Wesley Chapel, FL, June 6, 2013 – TraderPlanet.com announced today that its new partner, Hope High School Dollars for Scholars program in Providence, Rhode Island, presented the first annual Louis B. Mendelsohn Entrepreneur Award, an annual $10,000 scholarship award for outstanding academic achievement, a desire to pursue higher education in the business field, and for demonstrating entrepreneurial characteristics. The winner of this prestigious award is Ariel Matos, a bilingual student and a student athlete with a 3.7 GPA. He is ranked 6th in his class having taken multiple AP courses. Ariel is planning to attend Bryant College in the fall, where he intends to further his education and desire to operate his own business.
The partnership with Hope High School Dollars for Scholars program is part of TraderPlanet's charitable gifting mission and it is proud to be associated with both the program and Ariel Matos.
Lane Mendelsohn, founder of TraderPlanet.com says. "I'm proud we are part of the scholarship program and I am proud of Ariel Matos. He is a fine young man with a bright future ahead of him. I am also proud of my dad for supporting the Hope High School Dollars for Scholars program.”
The elder Mendelsohn, a 1965 Hope graduate, who pledged $50,000 over five years to Hope High's Dollars for Scholars program, spoke at the award ceremony held recently at Hope High School, and presented Ariel Matos with his scholarship award. Numerous educators from the Providence public school system were in attendance at the ceremony, including Jimps G. Jean-Louis, a guidance counselor at Hope High who has worked closely with the Dollars for Scholars program since its inception, and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Susan Lusi. According to Jane Bermont, a fellow classmate and President of the Dollars for Scholars program, "Lou's financial contribution will go a long way to bolster our fund raising efforts by motivating other alumni and local supporters to participate in the program." Indeed, Mendelsohn’s contribution has gone a long way to bolstering the program and the education of Ariel Matos.
"I am fortunate enough in my life to be able to give back to the community by providing financial support to the Hope High Dollars for Scholars program. Hopefully, my Legacy Scholarship Award will encourage other Hope alumni, as well as local business and community leaders in Providence, to do likewise. It is my fervent hope that the Dollars for Scholars program will become an enduring source of financial assistance and encouragement to future generations of deserving Hope graduates who aspire to live the American dream, as I have been so fortunate to have done."
Ariel Matos’ academic rigor is indicative of his hard work and dedication. His academic achievements and his participation in basketball and cross-country running exemplify his curricular and extra-curricular drive, but he also participates in bettering his community. Ariel volunteered to coach Hope’s unified basketball team during the past two seasons.
Ariel has had several employment experiences that prompted him to explore being a small business entrepreneur. He worked at the West Elmwood Housing organization where he helped create and build the organization’s website. He expressed how much he learned about business and the importance of communicating one’s product in a technological and global market. Ariel also helped his father operate a family business. These experiences and opportunities created Ariel’s interest in pursuing a career in business and to apply for the Louis B. Mendelsohn Entrepreneur Award.
