The former Maple Leaf/Schnieders plant closed down last spring, leaving the property vacant. Woodhouse Group saw the property as an opportunity to continue its strong relationship with the community of Ayr, and closed the deal on May 28th.
Woodhouse Group has a short and successful history with the community of Ayr. Woodhouse Group purchased the old CO-OP building at 148 Northumberland St in 2010, and redeveloped it into the Ayr Heritage Business Centre which features a number of businesseswhich have made strides in the community. SNAP Fitness; a 24 hours gym, Living My Dream; a local roofing company, and Ayr Heritage Self Storage; a 24 hours storage facility are examples of these.
180 Northumberland Street presented itself as another opportunity to continue to help grow the area. There are no confirmed plans for the 11 acre property as of yet, but the general consensus from local politicians and citizens, is that they would like the property to be used for retail/residential purposes.
The first step for Woodhouse Group is to remove the old plant that is sitting on the property. Once the plant is removed, the Woodhouse Group will go through the appropriate steps and protocol to determine what the best course of action is for the property. The Woodhouse Group continues to work with planners, community representatives and local citizens to determine what would best suit the site and the community.
