MI Dealers Saw Another Month of Gains and Increases in Detroit

May was another month that MI dealers saw automakers increase their numbers along with the number of units that were sold. Some automakers did better than others. Who came out on top?

Online PR News – 05-June-2013 – Detroit, MI – MI dealers work with each other to contribute to the final numbers for their automaker every month. With May being another positive month for most automakers, the industry saw a rise in car sales yet again this year.

General Motors had a positive month, and its winning brand for the month was Cadillac. Not only did Cadillac have the largest year over year change of the many GM brands, but Cadillac had its best year-to-date rise since 1976. With a 39.9 percent change from last May, Cadillac saw a total of 13,808 units sold.

“Cadillac is growing faster than it has in almost 40 years, the pickup rebound is in full swing and we’re seeing strong retail demand for our crossovers” said Kurt McNeil, vice president of U.S. sales operations. “These are all powerful signs that the gradual recovery in the economy is becoming more broad-based. That’s great news for the auto industry and General Motors.”

As usual, Chevrolet took the highest number of total sales with 179,510 units sold. The sales for General Motors were as follows:

May 2013 Sales Total Sales YOY Change Retail Sales YOY Change
Chevrolet 179,510 0.9% 124,897 5.4%
GMC 41,594 7.0% 33,814 11.5%
Buick 17,982 (3.1)% 15,897 9.9%
Cadillac 13,808 39.9% 13,050 36.6%
Total GM 252,894 3.1% 187,658 8.6%

Other MI dealers saw increases as well. Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales increased by 11 percent. This is the best May total sales figure that has been seen in six years by Chrysler. Another milestone for Chrysler is seeing the FIAT brand surpass 100,000 units sold.

Ford saw a 14.1 percent increase with 246,019 vehicles sold: a best since 2006. Toyota also increased by 2.5 percent with 207,952 units sold versus the same time last year.
