Building lives through tennis and education.

Wilmington, DE (May 2013) – On Monday, June 10, 2013 the public is invited to celebrate the 34th year of service by the Rodney Street Tennis & Tutoring Association (RSTTA); a USTA NJTL Chapter providing innovative tennis and educational enrichment programs to inner-city youth. Activities will commence at 11am at the Rodney Street Courts (Rowan St. & Gilpin Ave.). A special appearance by Governor Jack Markell is anticipated.

“I can’t believe that we’ve been here this long, it feels like we just started. This day is always a thrill as we celebrate the start of another summer,” stated Harry Shur, RSTTA Founder.

RSTTA will be announcing that Rob Wirth, DuPont Country Club’s Director of Tennis, will be joining their staff to oversee the tennis program. “We are thrilled to have Rob. His experience and knowledge will elevate the Rodney Street tennis program to a level,” stated Bill Curry, RSTTA Chairman.

RSTTA (www.rodneystreettennis.org) provides year round, after-school and out-of-school programs that are designed to combat pressing community concerns: truancy; poor academic achievement contributing to an alarmingly low graduation rate; gang activity; drug and alcohol dependency; and unhealthy lifestyles. The RSTTA curriculum supports both the personal development of the “whole” child as well as the communal development of the neighborhoods in which these children live and play. As an adjunct to its youth enrichment programs, RSTTA provides adult family members of its participants with the opportunity to receive training and tutoring for GED certification and/or college readiness. RSTTA’s principal sponsor is
Comcast|NBC10. Additional support comes from foundations, corporate, public and private resources.
