UN Survey Seeks Input on Dam Development and Operations
06/01/2010

UNEP is seeking input from a wide variety of stakeholders with an interest in dam development - governments, industry and professional organizations, advocacy groups, affected people, researchers and others.

Online PR News – 01-June-2010 – – It is ten years since the World Commission on Dams (WCD) released its ground-breaking report, “Dams and Development: A New Framework for Decision-Making,” which recommended changes to the way large dams are developed and operated worldwide. To mark this anniversary, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is conducting a survey to determine the extent to which the WCD's recommendations have been adopted.

UNEP is seeking input from a wide variety of stakeholders with an interest in dam development - governments, industry and professional organizations, advocacy groups, affected people, researchers and others. Respondents are asked to participate in a short online survey, report on changes to dam-related laws, regulations, and policies, comment on the uptake and impact of the Commission's recommendations and provide examples.

The results of UNEP's survey will be presented at World Water Week in Stockholm this September, and published in a special issue of the online journal, Water Alternatives.

The survey is available online at http://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/dam/wcd/langen/, and can be completed in English, French, or Spanish.
