VTU to Provide IEEE CS Technical Training to its Students

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), one of India's leading and largest technical universities, will be offering IEEE Computer Society software development certificates and training materials.

Online PR News – 28-May-2013 – Washington – LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., 22 May 2013 – Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), one of India's leading and largest technical universities, will be offering IEEE Computer Society software development certificates and training materials to its more than 90,000 students, representing the next generation of global technical leaders, thinkers, innovators, and scholars.

As the IEEE Computer Society's newest Registered Education Provider, VTU will provide its students with the SWEBOK Certificate Program(SCP), which is intended to help college students bridge the gap between their education and careers. The SCP is based on the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK), the authoritative resource for software engineering best practices and knowledge. VTU students who complete one module or all four modules in the SCP series and pass an assessment will be awarded a certificate.

"This important collaboration is significant not only for the IEEE Computer Society and VTU but for the students who will be taking advantage of new learning options to further their technical education and become part of the global workforce," said Angela Burgess, IEEE Computer Society Executive Director.

"We are looking forward to working with VTU to help advance the cause of technical education, be it through certificates, online courses, webinars, or standards development," said David Alan Grier, IEEE Computer Society President.

The IEEE Computer Society will provide train-the-teacher workshops that will enable VTU to designate teachers and trainers for the programs, and will provide access to the Computer Society's TechLeader OnLine e-learning courses and Tech OnDemand webinars. VTU will also have access to IEEE's rich collection of libraries, including the Computer Society and Communications Society digital libraries, the IEEE/IET Electronic Library, and the IEEE-Wiley and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press e-books libraries.

"The students and faculty of VTU engineering programs will benefit immensely from the IEEE Computer Society offerings, especially SCP, Computer Society Digital Library, e-learning courses, technical webinars, participation in upcoming standards' definition, and technical instructor-led courses custom made for VTU," said Professor H. Maheshappa, VTU vice chancellor. "The addition of these programs will enable VTU students to acquire knowledge to enhance their opportunities for employment and career progression globally."

The IEEE Standards Association will conduct standards workshops at VTU to further student and faculty understanding of international standards development processes. The IEEE Educational Activities Board will conduct technical communication courses for engineering students and faculty, collaborate with VTU on projects, and establish an award for the best innovative idea. IEEE will also deliver a faculty development program.
