Increasing awareness on the FDA's policy that bans gay men from donating blood, which affects ALL OF US.

Orlando, FL (May 1, 2013)- A few months ago Blake Lynch went to donate blood on behalf of his friend Emmy. Emmy Derisbrun has sickle cell anemia and frequently requires blood transfusions while in the hospital. Emmy inspired Blake and many other nursing classmates to donate blood. Unfortunately, Blake was turned away and told he was permanently banned from donating blood because he is a gay male. Although Blake is a healthy individual he cannot donate blood because of a 30-year-old policy that was put in place by the FDA that bans gay men from donating blood.

After being turned away Blake and his partner Brett Donnelly began the Banned4Life Project on March 1st, 2013. The goal of Banned4Life is to increase awareness on the FDA's policy while encouraging eligible donors to donate blood in place of those who are Banned4Life. Banned4Life also encourages organizations to host Banned4Life blood drives. Banned4Life has a positive message that helps save lives, which is why Banned4Life has received support and media attention from across the nation.

The Banned4Life story caught the attention of an Award-Winning Director, Famor Botero. Famor Botero quickly realized how this policy affects everyone. In the beginning of April 2013 Famor Botero began filming the Banned4Life Documentary. Famor Botero and his team will be filming the Banned4Life team as they travel the nation speaking to individuals and organizations with the ultimate goal of getting this outdated policy changed.

With growing support of Banned4Life around the nation the Banned4Life team decided to begin a KICKSTARTER campaign. The minimum goal is to raise $30,000 in 30 days beginning May 11th. The funds will not only help fund the Banned4Life Documentary but the whole Banned4Life Project.

The Banned4Life Project is about how everyone can be affected by simple policies put forth by those who fear change. It is a story that begins with Blake, Brett and Emmy that quickly grows into a movement across the nation.

"Our blood can save lives. Our hearts can change the world."
