Paul Kelly, head of marketing at Morgan Lovell, took to the stage at Sustainability Live to explain how the sustainable office design and fit out company became the first organisation in Britain to achieve certification to BS EN 16001 with BSI.
Online PR News – 26-May-2010 – – At the event - held at the NEC in Birmingham and focused on the environment, energy, water, land and sustainability - Paul explained how the office refurbishment company secured the energy management standard after establishing processes and systems to improve energy efficiency at its London office.
Since introducing a range of measures, Morgan Lovell has seen its energy bills drop by around 30 per cent over 12 months.
Paul explained how, as well as cutting costs, improving Morgan Lovell’s building’s energy performance has offered a range of tangible benefits, including preparing for the mandatory CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme – and supporting the company’s corporate social responsibility policy.
After delivering a case study presentation at Sustainability Live, Paul was officially presented with Morgan Lovell’s BS EN 16001 certificate, by BSI.
Paul said: “Changes introduced at Morgan Lovell’s London office have included fitting smart meters to measure and control energy usage, technology to power-down equipment such as computers when they are not in use, and regular communication with staff to promote the benefits of adopting environmental efficiencies.
“Lighting is also based on movement sensors, supported by dimming units that reduce the need for artificial light by taking account of the natural lighting conditions, as well as a heating and cooling system - zoned across the office floors - which harnesses any heat rejected in areas being cooled and uses it to warm up other parts of the building as required.”
