The purpose behind Brittiana 'Smile For Life' 5k are to generate vital funds for research, direct assistance blood & bone marrow drives, uplift support for childhood cancer patients and their families, and to raise awareness about the increasing prevalence of childhood cancer and the need to help make a difference.
Each school day 46 children are diagnosed with cancer, and it remains the #1 diseased killer of America’s children between the age of 1 and 14.

Over the past 5 years, many celebrities and public figures have been honored at the event for their philanthropic work. Past honorees include: actor/comedian Chris Tucker, Tyler Williams (“Everybody Hates Chris”), Keke Palmer (“True Jackson VP”), Chelsea Tavares (“Unfabulous”), Kyle Massey (“That's So Raven”), Paige Hurd (Beauty Shop), Mishon (R&B vocalist), Derek Strong (NASCAR), Chester Pitts (NFL Houston Texans), Jamie Jones (Grammy Award winning vocalist) and many others.

In addition to the upcoming 5K Walk/Run, Britticares International recently held a Blood and Marrow Drive in conjunction with hip hop star Cornell “Nelly” Haynes and his nonprofit, Jes Us 4 Jackie, which is in the memory of his sister who passed away from leukemia.

At the age of 10, Brittiana was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma a rare form of bone cancer. Courageously, Brittiana fought this disease and was like any other cancer patient, subdued to the confinements of the hospital. She painfully underwent chemotherapy and partial knee replacement surgery, in which never stopped her love from shining through the hospital walls. Remaining optimistic about her own struggle, Brittiana would visit other children in the hospital offering hugs, smiles, love and reading stories (her favorite).

With the help and support of Brittiana's parents Jamie and Shirell Henderson, they organized a 501(C) (3) non - profit organization called BrittiCares International (BCI) with that same infectious love to help others. Brittiana was able to attend the 1st annual Brittiana "Smile for Life" 5k run/walk in 2006, as her battle with cancer came to an end January 31, 2007. Her legacy lives on years later as celebrities, communities, family, friends and organizations gear up for the race to help children stricken with cancer, leukemia, sickle cell anemia and other serious blood diseases.
