Marin Mixed Martial Arts Team Wins Gold At American Cup

Marin MMA’s competition team, led by head instructor Mikyo Riggs, took gold in several divisions in the 6th American Cup, held at Independence High School, San Jose, 04/20-21/2013.

Online PR News – 25-April-2013 – April 21th, 2013, San Jose, CA – Marin MMA won second place in the Female Team Trophy Award, led by brown belt middleweight Brigette Barnato, who won gold in her division and silver in the open. Blue belt Candace Stump had an all-star performance this weekend, winning gold in her division and gold in the blue belt open weight division. Candace was able to submit several of her opponents, including one by a bow and arrow choke from the back. Lauren Sacks recently received her blue belt and won silver, defeating her Cirst opponent 8-0.

The boys from team Marin MMA also experienced success. Purple belt Jason Boivie earned gold in a dominant performance in the light heavy weight division and silver in the open weight competition. Blue belt Eric Smith won gold in the Senior 1 lightweight division. Ben Greenlee picked up bronze in the blue belt masters lightweight division.

Marin MMA’s owner and head instructor, Mikyo Riggs, expressed great pride at his student’s victories. “The girls all turned in great performances and showed impressive technique. We’re ready to use the time before the World Championships to work out any mistakes we made at the American Cup.”
